Help Topic Linking

You should include hyperlinks to related topics from your Help topics to help users in finding the information that they need. This topic describes when and how to use these different links.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help contains the following types of links.

Link type Description Useful for

Hyperlink

Links that are authored or automatically inserted directly in topics and have fixed targets in other topics.

Linking to another topic.

Shortcut

Links that open windows directly in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client.

Linking to a window in Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

URL

Links to the Internet or other external resources.

Linking to other resources, such as content on partners' and customers' own sites.

By default, Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help uses links in the following topic types.

You can configure the Help Builder to insert a standard paragraph with hyperlinks to central topic(s), such as overview of general user functions. In core Help for Microsoft Dynamics NAV, the following standard hyperlink section exists:

The standard hyperlinks paragraph is automatically inserted into topics before the See Also paragraph.

If this section is not present, then the hyperlinks paragraph is inserted at the end of the content. For more information, see Advanced Settings.

Shortcuts

You can insert a shortcut in a Help topic to open a window in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. For more information, see Creating and Running Hyperlinks.
