specialize Configuration Pass (Standard 8)

7/8/2014

Review what happens in the specialize configuration pass in Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8).

During the specialize pass of Image Builder Wizard (IBW), device-specific information for the image is applied. For example, you can configure network settings, international settings, and domain information.

The specialize pass is used together with the generalize pass. The generalize pass is used to create a Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) reference image that can be used throughout an organization. From this basic Standard 8 reference image, you can add customizations that apply to different divisions in an organization or apply to different installations of Standard 8. The specialize pass is used to apply these specific customizations.

The following illustration shows the specialize pass process.

For example, during the specialize pass, you can specify different home pages in Internet Explorer for different departments or branches within your business. This setting then overrides the default home page that was applied during the generalize pass.
