How to pay the fee associated with a silver or gold competency

This article describes how and when to pay the fee associated with attaining a silver or gold Microsoft Partner Network competency. The article also describes how to change your preferred method of payment, how to cancel an order, and how to receive a 25 percent fee discount when moving from a silver to gold competency.

Meet a competency’s requirements and pay the fee

If you have already met the requirements to attain a specific silver or gold competency (or you already have a silver or gold competency), you can quickly check the competency’s fee. Just select the compare-offers tab in the Partner Center.

Otherwise, follow these steps to pay the fee for a silver or gold competency. The steps assume you have met the following prerequisites:

  • You are a partner who has already joined the Microsoft Partner Network.

  • You have already met the requirements to attain a specific silver or gold competency.

  • You have been assigned the Partner Center role of global admin or MPN partner admin. If you are a guest user without one of these roles, you will be denied access to some of the Partner Center pages described below. If this happens, contact your global admin and ask them to assign you the appropriate role.

  1. Using your organization’s work account credentials, sign in to the Partner Center dashboard.

  2. Select the Membership tile and select Membership offers.

  3. Under Offers available for purchase, find the Silver membership tile or Gold membership tile associated with your specific competency.

  4. Select the Subscribe option located at the lower right of the specific Silver or Gold membership tile.

    Note

    If you haven't met the requirements yet for the desired silver or gold competency, you won't be able to subscribe to the silver/gold membership or pay the associated competency fee. Also, if you are already a gold competency partner, the incremental benefits for a silver competency will be auto awarded to you. In this scenario, the option to pay the silver competency fee will also be unavailable.

  5. On the Purchase details page, review and confirm your details.

  6. At the bottom-left of the page, locate the Select your payment preference section. Select either the Credit card option or the Electronic Bank Transfer option, then select Next. See the following sections for further steps associated with either option.

Use a credit card as your payment preference

Follow these steps to complete your credit card payment for an associated silver or gold competency membership.

  1. If you selected Credit card as your preferred method of payment, the Credit card details page appears.

  2. Select the agreement link close to the top of this page and review the MPN Offer Purchase Terms and Conditions on behalf of your company. This agreement offers important information about your billing account, renewal, refund eligibility, and taxes.

  3. Enter your credit card details and billing information in the related fields, then select Pay.

    Your payment will be collected through a third-party, secure payment gateway.

    Note

    Make sure the address you enter on this page corresponds to the address on your credit card. If the legal entity address differs from the address on your credit card, do not use your legal entity address on this Credit Card details page. Also, make sure the zip code is correct and corresponds to the address you enter on this page.

As soon as the credit card information is received and the transaction is completed, your silver or gold competency subscription will be activated immediately.

Use electronic bank transfer as your payment preference

Follow these steps to complete your electronic bank transfer for an associated silver or gold competency membership.

  1. If you selected Electronic bank transfer as your preferred method of payment, you will see the Review purchase details page.

  2. Select the agreement link toward the bottom of this page and review the MPN Offer Purchase Terms and Conditions on behalf of your company. This agreement offers important information about your billing account, renewal, refund eligibility, and taxes.

  3. Review the bank transfer details you will need.

  4. In Your selected purchase area, note the amount due to Microsoft and the specific currency fee. You will need to transfer that amount in that specific currency from your bank account.

  5. When you are satisfied you have all the information you need, select Submit.

    Note

    Your Order number and MPN ID will appear as soon as you successfully Submit the order. Please make note of this information. You will need it later to complete your bank transfer.

  6. You will see a confirmation page indicating your submission was successful. After you complete the wire transfer with your bank, you will need to return to this page to upload your proof of payment.

  7. Complete the wire transfer from your bank account. Make sure to do the following:

    • Include both the Order number and MPN ID in your wire transfer reference details.

    • Transfer the amount due (in the currency noted earlier) to the Microsoft bank account shown in the prior page’s Wire transfer instructions area.

  8. Once your bank confirms the transaction, take a photo of the bank confirmation as proof. Make sure the bank confirmation proof document shows details about:

    • The date the wire transfer payment occurred
    • The Microsoft bank account used to receive your wire transfer
    • The transfer amount shown in proper currency
    • Your Order number and MPN ID number

Upload proof of wire transfer payment

If you pay your silver or gold membership fee via electronic wire transfer, you need to then upload proof of payment to Partner Center. Follow these steps to do so:

  1. Sign in to the Partner Center dashboard, select the Membership tile, then select Membership offers.

  2. In the Purchased offers list, locate your specific offer. Then, under the Action column for that offer, select Upload payment proof.

  3. On the details page, find the Payment proof field. Select Browse to locate and upload your proof document to Partner Center.

  4. Complete the information for the other fields related to your recent electronic funds transfer transaction, such as Payment date, Paid to account number, and Transaction/Ref no.

A green message may appear to tell you your request has been successfully completed.

After the payment is successfully completed, your purchase will typically appear as active between 48 and 72 hours after it reaches Microsoft’s bank account. The full process can take up to one week to be completed, however.

If you provide the necessary information in your wire transfer reference details (such as, Order number and MPN ID) and upload proof of payment to Partner Center, the payment may be able to be activated sooner.

If the payment process is not fully completed within 30 days of your order creation date, the status of your order will change to Expired. If your order is Expired, you will have to create a new order from Partner Center directly, without having to send the payment one more time.

Switch from electronic bank transfer payment to Credit card payment method

You might decide later to change your payment methods for the fee associated with a silver or gold competency membership. For example, you might decide to use a credit card payment instead of an electronic bank transfer. Or, you may already have an unactioned electronic bank transfer order created in the system.

To change your payment preferences for an existing order, you first need to cancel the order, then repurchase it using your preferred payment method.

Do the following to cancel an existing, unactioned electronic bank transfer and change your payment preferences:

  1. Sign in to the Partner Center dashboard, select the Membership tile, then select Membership offers.

  2. In the Purchased offers list, locate the specific offer you want to cancel. Then, under the Action column for that offer, select Cancel Order.

  3. Follow the remaining steps to cancel the order.

  4. Refer to earlier sections to create a new order with new payment preferences, based on one of the silver or gold membership offers still available to you.

Apply upgrade discount when moving from silver to gold

If your organization has an active silver competency and has met the eligibility requirements for the associated gold competency, you are eligible to upgrade from silver to gold for a discount. You will receive a 25 percent discount on the price of the gold competency.

The new Gold Anniversary Date will be scheduled for one year from the date of purchase. You will get full gold benefits.

Note

There are a few exceptions to this upgrade discount. If you had a Silver membership offer, then used the 25 percent Gold membership discount to upgrade to a Gold membership offer, you will not be eligible for a Silver refund. This is true even if you paid for your Silver membership within 30 days and have not yet used the related benefits.

To see where your 25 percent discount is applied, do the following:

  1. Sign in to the Partner Center dashboard, select the Membership tile, then select Membership offers.

  2. Under Offers available for purchase, look for a Gold membership tile. If you have previously attained and paid for a Silver membership, the Gold membership amount will be adjusted to reflect the 25 percent discount.

  3. Select Subscribe within the Gold membership tile that reflects the discount. Your purchase details page will also show the discount for your selected purchase.
